Work with us to decarbonise your organisation.
A hybrid input-output analysis is applied to your financial data in order to determine your carbon footprint and develop a science-aligned decarbonisation pathway.

Fully compliant with national and international standards of greenhouse gas reporting.
If you are looking for affordable expertise to advise you on the most effective ways to reduce your carbon footprint then your journey starts here.
For many small organisations, determining how to reduce your carbon footprint often comes down to applying common preconceived notions. This can mean considering actions like installing solar panels, buying local food, promoting cycling to staff or recycling more.
Although laudable, for most organisations the above actions will have little to no effect as they generally only relate to small components of the overall carbon footprint, and in some cases may even increase your footprint.
Given how time consuming such efforts can be it is essential therefore that a full carbon footprint is undertaken first in order to determine the real greenhouse gas ‘hotspots’ in your organisation. Once these have been identified an appropriate carbon reduction plan or decarbonisation pathway can be developed that will be far more effective at reducing your footprint, and often relatively inexpensive and less time consuming too.
There are three standardised methodologies in use today to determine the carbon footprint of an organisation, known as Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3. At Net Zero South Wales all of these methodologies are combined into a hybrid input-output analysis to determine your carbon footprint and develop a realistic time and cost-effective carbon reduction plan to meet your climate goals.
By choosing Net Zero South Wales for your decarbonisation needs you also get the reassurance that your carbon footprint meets national and international standards of quality, such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol or ISO 14064. By working with us you can also be sure that you are starting your decarbonisation journey on a solid footing.
So if you are looking for quality advice on reducing your carbon footprint or how to develop a decarbonisation pathway then take a look at our guidelines below and then take advantage of our free 1hr consultation to find out exactly how we can help.

FAQs
How do you go about doing a carbon footprint of an organisation?
After an initial enquiry has been made we will seek to arrange a meeting in order to discuss the footprinting process and to determine how detailed a carbon footprint you may need. After that we will ask for your most recent financial accounts and perform a hybrid input-output analysis to determine the overall carbon footprint. That may take anything from a few days to several weeks of work depending on the size of the organisation and the level of accuracy required, and during that period we will need to have regular contact with a financial officer from your organisation in order to resolve any budgetary questions that arise. Once we have done the analysis we will put together a draft report and carbon reduction plan and then seek another meeting in order to discuss the results. After that meeting we will aim to finalise the carbon footprint report and action plan.
What is an input-output analysis?
Input-output economics was developed by Nobel prize winning economist Wassily Leontief and is a method that uses the mathematics of matrix algebra to analyse in detail the complex relationships between the various sectors of an economy or organisation. These methods are now widely used by national governments, such as the Office for National Statistics here in the UK, who provide detailed input-output tables for their economy. The matrix algebra of input-output economics can be combined with knowledge of the carbon intensity of the various sectors of the economy and the input-output tables that national governments collate to provide a list of emissions factors that give the carbon intensity of each sector of the economy per pound (£) of expenditure. The advantage of this method is that the emissions factors also include the emissions for the entire supply chain of each economic sector, and not just the direct emissions. This approach can therefore be used to calculate the supply-chain emissions associated with an organisations expenditure.

How long does a carbon footprint take?
That depends on the size of your turnover, the level of detail you provide us in your financial accounts, and how accurate you want the footprint to be. In general, doing a carbon footprint using input-output analytical methods with an organisation with a turnover of £500k and a middling level of accuracy will require between 5 and 10 days of work.
How accurate is a carbon footprint?
That is a very complex question to answer for a whole host of reasons, but the long and short of it is that for organisations on a budget a professional carbon footprint is going to give you a good ballpark figure with an error margin roughly in the region of 30%. There are methodologies that can be applied to reduce this error margin but these will generally involve a lot more time and expertise therefore require a higher expenditure. If you are looking to invest significant amounts of money in carbon reduction measures then it is probably worth your time investing more money in a more accurate carbon footprint in order to be sure that money is being invested wisely. For most organisations the aim of the carbon footprint is to identify the hotspots within their operations in order that they can find the quickest and easiest ways to reduce their emissions. This does not require the most accurate footprinting methodologies as you are not looking for accuracy but rather to determine the relative importance of particular activities your organisation undertakes with respect to greenhouse gas emissions.
What clients have you worked with before?
Net Zero South Wales was launched in 2025 and so does not yet have a long resume of client organisations. The founder of Net Zero South Wales however has nearly 20 years of experience and has worked with a wide variety of clients such as local authorities, charities, community groups and international corporations.
